Friday morning news and notes

Today doesn't figure to be quite as eventful as Thursday --- how could it? Still, lots on tap, so here's a quick breakdown:

--- As Orangebloods.com details well, Nebraska is expected to announce today that it is joining the Big Ten. Once that happens, it could open the door for Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State to immediately join the Pac-10. However, that could also take through the weekend. As Orangebloods notes, the real drama is with Texas A&M, said to still be flirting with the SEC. That could mean the Pac-10 looks to Utah or Kansas to fill its final spot to expand to 16.

--- Pac-10 and Colorado officials will hold a formal press conference in Boulder today at 11 a.m. to formally announce CU's move.

--- ESPN.com has an anlysis of why Texas will ultimately decide the Pac-10 is its best fit.

--- SI.com also breaks down what could happen today and says the Pac-10 is insulting everyone's intelligence by insisting it could stay at 11 teams.

--- ESPN.com's Los Angeles site details the rules on the ability of USC upper classmen to transfer. Essentially, juniors and seniors are free to leave at no penalty and other schools can initiate contact. However, Lane Kiffin says he doesn't know of anyone wanting to leave, and history indicates there probably wouldn't be a mass exodous.

--- SportsbyBrooks reports that USC AD Mike Garrett will be gone by the end of summer -- and you wonder why it would take that long.

--- The LA Times has a good Q-and-A on relevant issues surrounding USC's sanctions, including the transfer rules as well as the fact that the Trojans will likely have to dump a game from next season's schedule. Hawaii seems the logical choice, but if it were me, I'd scrap that trip to Minnesota.

--- Lastly on USC, the LA Daily News says the sanctions have left USC in a daze.

--- And in one UW note, the Husky Central store in downtown Seattle is holding its grand opening this morning.
